Dispatches From my Sketchbook 7

It’s been a while since I uploaded some pages from my sketchbook. No better time than now. I draw heads A LOT. I think I probably got the idea from Alex Toth, but if I’m bored, or more often when I’m doing warm ups, I’ll draw heads in my sketchbook. Here’s a couple of [...]

Orphan

For the last little bit I’ve been working a concept that started out in my sketchbook a couple of years ago of a bird riding character who I was going to do as a webcomic. I did a handful of pages, thinking I’d do twenty or so before I would start posting. It didn’t take [...]

Drawings From Natchez Trace State Park

Last weekend I went to Natchez Trace State Park in Tennessee for the lovely wife’s family reunion. I did a couple of drawings in my sketchbook while I was there. As usual they were done in Micron Pigma pen in my Piccadilly sketchbook.

Dispatches From my Sketchbook 6

I haven’t posted anything for a while, mostly due to my extremely busy schedule over the past month. First off, I attended Fluke with good buddy Lou Copeland, and had a great time. Got to hang out with J Chris Campbell, met some good folks, talked with Rob Ullman, and picked up a couple of [...]

Dispatches From My Sketchbook 5 (Color Pencil Practice)

I’ve been reading Mattotti’s Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde, which is done in color pencil and looks terrific. Since I hadn’t done anything in color pencil in probably 10 years; so I thought I’d dig them out and play around. As it turns out, I need to practice my color pencil work. I got too [...]

Phil McAndrew’s Contest (Dispatches From My Sketchbook 4)

Phil McAndrew is putting on a contest where cartoonists draw scenes from movies. I was able to knock two out after work today. The first is from a movie directed by Hal Ashby that I like a lot. Harold and Maude.

The second is from one of my favorite movies, from my favorite director Wes Anderson. [...]

Dispatches From My Sketchbook 3

I did some drawing in my sketchbook this weekend. And I setup my Flikr account. One more way for me to send my dispatches into the void, I guess.
Anyhow, on Saturday, I did a drawing of my garage, while Christy was working in her garden.

On Sunday, I went to Sawgrass Lake Park with a friend [...]

Dispatches from my Sketchbook 2

Here’s another one from my sketchbook. It’s from last year some time. Not exactly current, but I really like it.

Dispatches from my sketchbook #1(?)

I’m going to try and do a better job of posting more regularly on this blog than I did on my old blogspot and livejournal blogs. To that end, I’ll be putting up more sketchbook stuff than I used to do. Here’s a couple of drawings of characters that may or may not be part [...]
